Sister Bernadette’s Funeral Mass will be celebrated in
Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church,
420 Seaview Road, Henley Beach on
FRIDAY 29th MAY 2026 commencing at 10:30 a.m.
Following refreshments, the Committal Service
will take place in the Catholic Western Ground
of West Terrace Cemetery, West Terrace, Adelaide.
The Funeral Mass will be available by livestream.

Died peacefully on Saturday 9th May 2026,
aged 88 years.
Bernadette was a loved member of
the Sisters of Mercy for 70 years.
She was a gifted teacher with an enquiring mind
who was able foster this same curiosity in
her students in Adelaide, PNG and Pakistan.

Sister Bernadette brought her joyful presence to the students and staff of NDIE - Notre Dame Institute of Education in Karachi, Pakistan. For those of us who came to teach there she provided a listening ear and was a model of resilience and humour through challenges and celebrations. Marie O’Callaghan
Sister Bernadette was an excellent teacher at Mercedes College in the years of 1972 to 1978 where I graduated in Year 12. I have lots of fond memories of her! She always had a smile on her face and she was always welcoming to her students! If you had a problem you would seek her to fix it!! May she rest in peace with her Lord!!

Sr Bernadette was a loved teacher at Mercedes College. She was also sports mistress and that is where I knew her best. She would willingly pick up a softball bat and join us in a game, despite her heavy habit. We loved her so much for her fun loving nature and her ever smiling face. Later, when we were older mothers, Sr joined a group of us for our 6 weekly lunches or coffee catch ups. Stephanie Walsh
