Will miss that mischievous grin you gave after you deliver a humorous come-back to a joke and your joy of life. Rest easy friend, you will be dearly missed by all of us. Raise an upright thumb and look over us all.
Thinking of you at this difficult time. x
Member of our family for 20 plus years. Thanks Batt for our amazing Grandchildren. Here for a good time but not a long time. Sorry to see you go. Jim and Kath Stocker
It’s hard to know what to say, so I sought some inspiration. ‘Although wombats are naturally very shy, they are inquisitive and have been known to become friendly with people.’ Wombat was well known for being friendly with people and will be missed. RIP
This will be the one and only time you don't get the last word Wombat... You've carved a place in each of our hearts through your fun loving, mischievous antics and your passion for hockey and life in general. You always knew how to get the party started and would party from dusk until dawn whenever possible - but every party must come to an end. We'll no doubt drink many a toast to you in the years to come. Thanks for all the memories. ❤️
Sending love to all the family. Remembered from Williams.
Dear Jodi, Alex and Bell Sending all our love to you at this sad time and so thankful for the many fantastic hockey memories that we have featuring Brett. Rest easy Wombat. Mark Stella David and Jonathan xxxx
Wombat- I don't think that anyone in baseball circles actually knew your name. Probably happened a lot, and your moniker was perfect. You were in the middle of everything- trouble, fun, loud, happy, generous, caring, serious when called for, and a tremendous mate to everyone. You held court at whatever event or game you you were at, and each subsequent year you were a fixture. Naturally you were one with whom everyone always kept in touch - before the internet and Facebook (the horror!) and beyond. You always made the effort to catch up- which as we know isn't always easy- and made everyone feel as if they were worth the effort. Not everything is easy, but friendship with you was. You're going to leave a huge hole for Bell, Alex, and Jodi and I hope that their memories of you will keep your presence around and bring them comfort. We love you Wombat.
A wonderful and loved friend and a great asset to Adelaide Uni Hockey Club, and hockey in general. He was the first to offer a genuine welcome and a helping hand to anyone who needed it and was the king of sideline sledges. He will be greatly missed but never forgotten. All the love in the world to Jodi, Alex and Bell xxxx
Dearest Jo, Alex and Bell. I've only ever called Brett 'Wombat' because that was how I was introduced to the delightfully larger than life character he was. I am deeply sorry for your loss. My enduring memory of 'Batt' is his incredible sense of humour and ability to put people at ease. He had a carefree manner, full of mischief and always seeing the funny side. The shock of losing him so young runs deep. Know he was loved by many people and his laugh, humour, and smile will stay with those who knew and loved him. My deepest condolences. Love, Penelope
Sending love and sympathy to all the family, especially Karen.Fond memories of your Williams days. Sharon Ashton new Bingham
Our thoughts and prayers are with you Jodi, Alex and Isobel as you farewell Brett. He was a much loved friend and a great contributor to the AMP network in SA and across the country in his roles on the AMPFPA State Chapter and National Board. He was a fun loving practical joker who made friends with all he met. We will all certainly miss him. Rest In Peace Bretty.
Wombat made a huge impact on all who met him. He understood what having fun was all about and didn't hold back. His generous soul will be missed but I know he will be warming up the bar for us on the other side. Wishing Wombats family peace and love in this difficult time.
Sending our sincere condolences to Bell and the family. Hold on to the beautiful memories created. All our love.
Your passion for your family, sport and your work I will always remember. You always put others first in everying you did. It was a pleasure to have walked some of your work life with you mate.. You will be missed by many.. Cheers, Big Fella
You were always a good friend at school. I was pleased to have seen you at the last big reunion and was looking forward to the next. It will be a different reunion when it comes now. My commiserations to your family and loved ones. You clearly continued living as you lived at school and without a doubt have left big prints on us all.
Vale Wombat BD - I first met you at the Uni Games in Perth in 1992 where you were the baseball comp manager I learned a lot from you and have fond memories when we were on the organising committee for the Uni Baseball and Softball Championships in ‘97 at Flinders University Baseball & Softball Club When I moved to Sydney for work in 2001 you and Jodi rented a room to me which I always appreciated Most of all you were someone I could turn to for sound advice, you were someone who would always be there if you needed a favor, reliable and generous I’ll miss your wisdom, energy and humour - RIP Bat
Beautiful service. Seems so strange that we will never see dear Wombat again. He was full of life and love and the dearest friend to my sister Robyn.I was lucky enough to be the recipient of his kindness and zest for life always welcoming and kind. He recently helped my sister navigate a challenging situation with my Dads death and was there for all of us. Much love to you all.xxxx
A little time has already passed and it still doesn't seem real that you're gone. My darling cousin, and far more importantly, my dear friend. Thanks for always being there for me whenever I reached out, and thanks for all the times you reached out to me. We had many fun times growing up together amongst our wonderful Smith families, a little bit of primary school together in the same year group, and then into the fun and easily-forgotten high school and uni years (remember when we were going to lease that awesome townhouse in South Perth on the foreshore!). We both travelled and worked all over the place and yet managed to always stay in touch and to catchup when we could, along with the many many fabulous family Christmas lunches. We both somehow each found an amazing partner to settle down with and both had our wonderful "pigeon pair" who have now all grown into those amazing young adults that they are. You have made a hugely positive difference in this world by sharing and spreading joy and happiness where ever you went. Thank you. Your integrity was always beyond reproach and an example to all and that really matters. Thank you. You gave your entire family everything that you could all the times that you could. Thank you. You gave your friends and your community such a huge amount of never-ending support. Thank you. Say hi to your Mum and Dad, and go have a beer with my dad please. Love you and miss you. x From Lindy
