I was very saddened to hear about Don's passing. I worked with Don (many years ago now!) at the University of Adelaide. Don was a wonderful person, and a great boss. We had lots of stimulating discussions both work and non-work related and laughed a lot. Don and Lyn were very generous in hosting staff Christmas shows at their house which were always good fun. Don was very supportive of me in my early career. I still count him as one of my best bosses all these years later. My condolences to the family.

I only very recently made acquaintance, the brevity of which I will always regret, but I have heard tell for a long time of Don and his work from mutual comrades who hold him in the highest esteem. I witnessed ,in our recent intense conversation of many hours, that which was obvious about him:a man of deep authenticity, intelligence, goodwill, humour and a sincere commitment to the side of workers and the oppressed in our struggle for a better world . Thank you Don for all you have done. I wish to express my sincere condolences and love to Lyn and all Don's family. Such a sorrowful day. I'll be with you via live stream.

Goodbye Uncle Don. I'll always remember fondly our conversations about history and politics and your infectious smile whenever you spoke about the many topics you were passionate about (such a long list that is!). The world has lost a beautiful mind, a man who always stood stood up for what he believed in and through his work gave a voice to others. Love Stefan

Dear Lyn, My thoughts are with you at this very sad time. I fondly remember the opportunity the Project, Days of Wrath, Years of Hope: Memories of protest and civil disobedience in SA 1965-1983, gave me to meet Don and you and to get to know of the beautiful relationship you shared together for over 50 years. This is a period of wonderful memories and I know that overtime these memories will bring you continued solace. You referred to the Project, Don and you did jointly as “the most worthwhile thing we have ever done.” It will be a wonderful tribute to Don and an acknowledgement of your enduring partnership working together. My love and peace to you. Léonie

My wife, Liz, and I both worked alongside Don at the University of Adelaide. I well recall the discussions we had about university administration, policy and practice - there were moments of challenge and difference, but always warmth and respect. We lost contact in later years, but he is remembered fondly as a warm and genuine man. Our deepest sympathy to his family, surely secure in the great memories they have of him.

Michael Lucas -
